GET INVOLVED
Educating ourselves on the critical importance of clean sustainable seas is the first step to raising awareness and effecting change. These important roles affect everyone whether they live along the coast or not. This is why for those of us who are fortunate enough to live along these coastal zones have to step up accepting responsibility as ambassadors of these precious environments. Ocean conservation organizations such as Surfrider Foundation, Coastkeeper, and Ocean Conservancy present platforms for getting involved on multiple levels such as volunteer programs, public seminars, and donations.
The way these organizations play a key role in getting the public involved demonstrates ways in which we can give back and participate. As the vice president of the UCSD Surfrider foundation club I fully support these efforts and strive for increased awareness and participation on campus and off. We are involved with the San Diego chapter and work hard at keeping our beautiful coastlines clean with beach cleanups and fun events. Beach clean ups present an educational way to clean up your local community beach and effect change at a local level! So whether you are participating in a local clean up, or just out for a walk remember that thinking locally is the first step to acting globally.
